Boy suspected in beating death known as troubled child

The boy who authorities suspect might have been involved in the beating death of a six-year-old in a Saskatchewan First Nation community was already on police radar, CBC News has learned.

RCMP visited the boy at school a number of times and spoke with him aboutvarious previous investigations in the community, east of Regina.

There's no further information about those investigations or their outcome.

Now,the boy isbelieved to have been involvedin the beating death of Lee Bonneau, 6.

Bonneau was last seen playing outside a recreation centre with some dogs oneeveningnearlytwo weeks agowhen his foster mother lost sight of him. After a 90-minute search,he was found in a nearby open areawith serious head injuries.

Another boy wastherewith blood on his clothes, according to information obtained by CBC News.That boy issuspected in Bonneau's death.

The young suspect has been apprehended by social services in Saskatchewan. But he is under 12 years old too young to be charged with the crime.

If he is found to be responsible, he will be one of the youngest killers in Canadian history.

More details are expected at a news conference on Tuesday.
