Strong men converge on Regina to compete

On Canada Day, Western Canada's 12 strongest men will compete in Regina. The top three contenders will move on to Canada's Strongest Man Competition.

Pulling 20,000 pounds of semi, lifting a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy and other Herculeanfeats of strength will be on displaythis Friday.

The 15thannual Western Canada's Strong Man competition will be held onCanada Day in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

"There's a lot of great athletesfrom across western Canada coming," said promoter and competitor BradProvick.

Thiscompetition is the gateway to the national strongman competition in Ontario.

"The top 12 guys from Western Canada will be here. So it's kind of like the Grey Cup of Western strongmen. So it's going to be a big day."

Reginawinner back to defend title

Regina's own seven-time winner, ScottCummine,will make his return to the competition.Provicksays he's back with a vengeance after losing his title last year.

Cummine, like many who participate in the sport, was injured last year and could not compete.

The competitors know during training when not to push themselves beyond their limits, but all bets are off when it's competition time.

"I'm telling you on," saidProvick."Friday there's going to be no one holding back. For all these guys it's the biggest show of the year."
