Cold spell cracks Regina trees, but they'll probably heal: city

A number of trees in Regina are showing cracks in their bark because of the drastic change in temperature.

Frost cracks tend to heal over time when the weather warms up

Most frost cracks will heal on their own, but others need a bolt put into the bark to help the healing process.

The bitter cold temperatures Regina saw over the holidays have taken a toll on some of the city's trees.

Several treesare showing cracks intheir bark because ofthe drastic change in temperature aphenomena called frost cracks.

During a recent cold snap thatblanketed Saskatchewan, temperatures dropped down to30 C.

But the city has assured residents that once the weather warms up, the trees often heal themselves.

If the crack is too large, the city could insert a bolt into the trunk that may help the mending process.

If you are concerned abouta substantial frost crack, call the City of Regina, which will determine the best way to help.
