Construction headaches expected for next Agribition

Officials with the Canadian Western Agribition are already bracing for a 2016 show which, while they are enthusiastic about what they will offer, will include some inconvenience due to construction at the fair grounds.

"The old barns are coming down shortly after the [2015] show," Agribition CEO Marty Seymour said Saturday. "That's going to be different and feel different next year. But at this point we're anxious to get started on construction."

Evraz Place, Regina's exhibition space, is tearing down a total of 13 structures to make room for a $37-million trade centre that is expected to be open in 2017.

"I can't fool anybody. There will be inconveniences," Seymour said, noting that parking will be a challenge in 2016, among other things.

"How we park. How we move in and out. How animals flow. But it's an investment in the future," he added.

Seymour said that even though they are looking at an 18-month-long construction schedule, some new areas will be ready in time for the next Agribition.
