Despite photo radar, speeders still abound, roadbuilder says

Despite the introduction of photo radar, drivers in Saskatchewan continue to speed through road construction zones.

In July, 56 people were ticketed for breaking the speed limit in so-called orange zonestriple the number of tickets issued that month in previous years.

The speed limit in construction zones is 60 kilometres per hour.

The province has increased fines for speeding in those zones, and last month deployed photo radar at some constuction sites.

According to Josh Safronetz, operations manager for HJR Asphalt, drivers continue to flout the law.

HJR is the company employed Ashley Richards, the 18-year-old flag person who was killed at a highway worksite near Midale last summer.

Safronetz spoke with the Morning Edition's Stefani Langenegger. Click on the link for the full interview.
