Environment Canada warns of strong winds in Sask.

People in southern Saskatchewan already soaked by rain should prepare for severe winds Tuesday, according to Environment Canada.

As the rain wraps up, southern Saskatchewan can expectwinds of60 km/h gusting to 90 or 100 km/h, according to Environment Canada warning preparedness meteorologist Terri Lang.

"Everyone's going to get some winds and these could certainly go into the severe category," she told CBC Saskatchewan's Blue Sky. "Everyone should put away the lawn furniture and pooltoys and that type of a thing in anticipation oftomorrow."

Lang says the heavywinds are expected across much of the province. It has been a relatively mild summer, and Lang hopespeople don't forget how bad weather can be.

"We haven't seen a low pressure system like this come this season. There's a bit of complacency so we're just trying to draw people's attention to yes, the rain is coming. Be prepared for that. The wind is coming. And certainly be on the lookout for severe weather."

On the flooding front, Lang says it's hard to say where flooding may occur. Much of Saskatchewan's land is quite dry, but if a lot of rain falls in a short period of time, flooding could still occur. She says cities are more problematic.

"When you come into the city, it's covered with concrete. So the city's ability to uptake the rain in a very short period of time is quite limited."

Lang says once this system moves through, it looks like smooth sailing with drier and sunnier skies.
