Remembrance Day services may look a bit different this year. Attacks last month on Canadian soldiers have put uniformed officers and police on alert.

Korean war veteran Ken Garbutt, 85,is in charge of the Remembrance Day ceremony at Regina's Brandt Centre.

He says besides army and navy uniforms, people can expect to see a lot more police uniforms.

"Well it's something that we've never had before since I've been alive anyway. But it's a necessityI think and it will make people feel a little at ease," Garbuttsaid.

Two dozen police officers on duty

The Regina Police Service said there will be eight officers at the Brandt Centre and eight at the Cenotaph. The RCMP will also deploy eight officers at the Brandt Centre.

Since the attackson soldiers in Quebec and Ottawa, military personnel have been told not to wear their uniforms in public. Today will be an exception.

"It's unfortunate that we have to make this change but it's important that we take reasonable measures to protect our sailors and soldiers," said Scott Dyson of the Royal Canadian Navy.
