Saskatchewan legislative session begins May 17

It'll be a slightly more crowded Legislative Assembly when MLAs take their seats in Regina on May 17 for the start of a new session.

New session to begin, with budget tentatively set for June 1

It will be a slightly more crowded Legislative Assembly when MLAs take their seats in Regina on May 17.

Sixty-one members were elected April 4, compared to 58 in the previous election.

New Session begins May 17

Premier Brad Wall announced the first day of thenew session on Wednesday.

Itwill begin with a throne speech to outline the government's priorities. The tentative plan is for theprovincial budget to come outJune 1.

Sitting in the Legislative Chamberwill be 51 Saskatchewan Party MLAs and 10 New Democrats (compared to the 49 Sask. Party MLAs and 9 New Democrats elected in 2011).

Regina MLA Trent Wotherspoon will be the leader of the Opposition.

Dome unveiling May 16

The session will be openingone day after the unveiling of the newly-refurbished Legislative Building dome.

There will be a public ceremony on May 16to show off the new copper top after more than a year of renovations. For months, the dome has been covered with white vinyl and scaffolding.
