Manitoban moose hunters fined $15K by Sask. court

After three moose were shot and loaded onto trucks near Canora, Sask., last year, provincial conservation officers investigated.

Now two men from Pine Creek First Nation in Manitoba have been fined a total of $15,000.

Charlie Boucher, 55, and Georgie Lamirande, 40, recently pleaded guilty in Yorkton provincial court to unlawfully hunting on posted land, unlawful possession of wildlife and illegally transporting wildlife to another province.

In a news release, the provincial environment ministry said anyone who wants to exercise their treaty rights inSaskatchewan to hunt for food still has to get permission to hunt on private land.
