Prime time for dust devils in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan is mostly flat, mostly dry and with temperatures heading into the 20s, conditions are ideal for the formation of 'dust devils'.

Mini-twisters happen during warm, dry days on flat land

Keith (whose Twitter handle is @skjdfarmer) tweeted out a video of a dust devil in west-central Saskatchewan. (@skjdfarmer/Twitter)

Saskatchewan is mostly flat, mostly dry and with temperatures heading into the 20s, conditions are ideal for the formation of 'dust devils'.

The short-lived,whirling vorticesofwind occur on sunny days when warm air rises into a pocketof cooler air above.

A Saskatchewan farmer who uses the Twitter handle @skjdfarmerrecently captured video of one in the west-central part of the province.

By the way, not everybody calls them dust devils. In Australia, they're willy-willies, in Iran, they're roundwinds, and in Death Valley, Calif., they'resometimes calledsand augers.
