Pump Roadhouse being sued over Regina nightclub shooting

Two men whowere shot inside Regina's Pump Roadhouse have filed lawsuits against the nightclub.

In the early morning hours of April 29, a gunman opened fire inside the club, hitting Sarain Stoney and Jordan Burns, according to the documents.

Stoney claims it was around 1:30 a.m. when he was walking from an upper level of the bar to a lower level and saw a man with a gun.

When he turned to run, he was hit by a bullet in the face, and then in the right shoulder. He suffered a broken jaw, lost two teeth and spent three weeks in the hospital, according to the lawsuit.

Jordan Burns filed a separate lawsuit on Monday.

It states he was shot twice in the left arm causing tissue and nerve damage and permanent scarring. He claimshe has little to no feeling in his left thumb, index finger and middle finger.

Both men claim the shooting left them with "emotional distress", "chronic pain" and has negatively affected their enjoyment of life.

According to the lawsuits,the Pump "failed to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of its patrons and attendees."

The lawsuits state the nightclub didn't have proper emergency plans or screening measures in place and thisled, in part, to the shooting and the injuries that Stoney and Burns suffered.

"The last thing we want to have happen is people having injuries or being subject to this," said Mark Smith, owner of the Pump. He said the club's lawyers and insurance company will begin preparing statements of defence. That has to be done within 20 days of the lawsuits being filed.

Smith saidthe Pump has increased security since the shooting.

"The next day we implemented a lot more security measures. We have metal detection.We wand everyone that comes through the door. If there's anything that's questionable about anyone that's coming to the door, we refuse them entry if we feel there's any slight possibility of an individual causing any trouble."

None of the allegations against the nightclub have been proven in court.
