Regina flooding: City OKs normal water use again

Today will likely be laundry day for households in Regina after the city lifted its voluntary water restrictions.

After 100 millimetres of rain fell between Thursday and Monday, the sewer system was overloaded and the sewage treatment plant was close to overflowing.

The city has been asking people to put off showering and laundry if possible to give the system a chance to recover.
As a result, water usage fell about 20 per cent, the city said.

On Friday morning, the city said residents may return to their normal water usage, but should still think about how much they're using.

Hundreds of Regina homeowners had sewage backing up into their basements during the weekend.

Disaster assistance forms available

Meanwhile, the city says it has been approved under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).
Anyone with damage fromflooding or seepageis eligible.

"Home owners are again encouraged to make sure that they document everything throughout the whole process," said

Jay O'Connor, who's responsible for emergency management with the city.

"Take lots of pictures. You don't have to send that all in with your application, you can just show that to the adjuster when they do come to take a look at your claim."

People can get applications at City Hall or online at regina.ca.The disaster assistance fund is only for non-insurable losses.

People will need to first check if their insurance companies will cover any damage.
