Regina RCMP memorial honours 3 Mounties killed in Moncton

All RCMP Members begin their duties at the Mounties' training academy, known as RCMP Depot Division in Regina. It's also where RCMP members who die in the line of duty are honoured in a ceremony each year.

Hundreds of RCMP members from across the country marched in Red Sergeto begin this year's national memorial service ceremony with a parade.

Moncton RCMP Constables honoured

Three new names were added to the memorial this year: theofficers killed in the line of duty in June, 2014 in Moncton.

ConstablesFabrice Georges Gevaudan, Dave Joseph RossandDouglas James Larchewere shot and killed by Justin Bourque, who later pleaded guilty to their murder and the attempted murder of two other wounded officers.

Their relatives and loved ones attended the memorial, along with RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson, RCMP veterans and families of other fallen officers.

'We share all our grief and our happiness, and catch up'

Chris Ng traveled from B.C. to represent all the families of killed RCMP officers at the ceremony. His son, Cst. Jimmy Ng died in the line of duty in 2002. He laid a wreath on behalf of the family members at the foot of the cenotaph.

He said theceremony is touching, but itis still difficult to participate.

"It's very difficult to say OK, it's getting easier to get over it. It can never be over,"Ng said. "But still, we share our grief together, so it's a very nice feeling."

Ng has attended the ceremony each year since his son's death. Hesays it's important to families of the officers, because it gives them a chance to come together.

"We share all our grief and our happiness, and catch up," Ng said.

The three killedMoncton officers have been added to the cenotaph and to Memorial Wall Plaques.

The addition of Gevaudan, Rossand Larche's names will mark a total of 234 RCMP members who have died since the beginning of the North West Mounted Police in 1873.
