Regina to boost cemetery fees twice

The City of Regina is planning a double-dose of cemetery fee increases amounting to a 14 per cent hike, according to a recommendation going to councillors next week.

The City of Regina is planning a double-dose of cemetery fee increases amounting to a 14 per cent hike, according to a recommendation going to councillors next week.

The first fee increase, a proposedeight per cent hike across the board, would take effect June 1. A further hike ofsix per cent would be implemented Jan. 1, 2011.

When fully implemented, a standard plot in any of the two Regina cemeteries will cost $1,125.

Regina also collects a fee for burial, with different rates depending on the size of the casket or cremation urn. A standard burial in Regina will cost $775.

The city also collects an administration fee and 25 per cent levy on the plot price for care and maintenance.

The city says it operates its two cemeteries on a cost-recovery basis.

Members of city council will be asked to approve the increases during a Monday evening meeting.
