Regina traffic to be restricted due to Travellers Building demolition

Traffic will be restricted in Regina for the next three weeks, due to clean up and demolition of the Travellers Building, the city announced Tuesday.

Broad Street's northbound curb lane will be restricted and the sidewalk will be closed for three weeks between 11thAvenue and 12th Avenue,depending on weather or unforeseen circumstances.

The building, which was built in 1929,was destroyed by a fire March 8.

The same day, partial demolition commenced as there were unsupported walls located on the perimeter of the structure.

The Travellers Building is expected to lose its heritage status at a city council meeting on May29, which is required by law, but demolition will continue ahead of that meeting.

Drivers are advised to plan a detour for the coming weeks while the site, which has sat dormant since its partial demolition, is cleaned and cleared.
