Interior design showcased at Saskatchewan Fashion Week

Fashion meets furnishing as Sarah Turnbull directs the interior design team this year at SaskatchewanFashion Week.

She is tasked with being one to lead a team to transform the Sound Stage anempty 31,000 square feet spaceinto an event venue representing the show's yearly creative campaign theme.

"We usually take our concepts as a branch of the main fashion week concept," Turnbull said.

"We took a lot of ideas of celebrating the history of fashion week, so you can see a lot of references to five, because it's the fifth year.You'll see we did a lot of the whole spectacular, drama and theatrical."

These ideas come to life firstly in the runway room, where fashionable folks attending the event will see chandeliers adorning the ceiling all designed by local jewellery designers.

A brightly lit number "5" stands centre stage at the back of the runway to commemorate the occasion.

This year, SaskatchewanFashion Week was collaborated with the Interior Design Association of Saskatchewan to launch the SFWxIDAS Interior Design Competition at the event. The goal is to showcase interior design in the community.

Four teams of interior designers have been given a space to design a booth in the after party lounge.

"Theypair up with a sponsor to showcase their product," said Turnbull. "They entwine the concept of Sask. Fashion Week and the space, and people can enjoy these spaces for free over the week."

One booth was created by a team from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in partnership with Tandus CentivaandThe Floor Show. In this booth, the display is created using different parts of carpet to decorate the space.

"This particular group with the Interior Design Association has made a dress made out of all the different pieces of carpet," said Turnbull.

"That will be on the runway Friday night."

The teams are competing for two awards: the Award of Excellence and the People's Choice Award. The awards will be presented during the runway program on Friday.
