Sask. sending $100 cheques to overcharged campers

The Saskatchewan government is saying sorry to frustrated campers with $100 cheques.

Campsite reservations for provincial parks launched on Monday, March 3, but immediately ran into technical difficulties.

Many people said they couldn't make a reservation online while many others said they were billed multiple times for the same reservation.

One person's credit card was accidentallycharged $17,000.

The province responded by apologizing and spreading out the remaining park reservations over several days.

Anybody who got billed more than once will receive a refund and, the government announced Tuesday, a cheque for $100 to go towards a vacation.

The government says 980 individuals, in a total of about 800 households,will be receiving a cheque.

The payments will cost the government $98,000. It hopes to get that money back from a private company.

"Our provincial park visitors are important to us, and we recognize that these incorrect charges have been an inconvenience to our customers," Parks Minister Kevin Doherty said in a news release.

Campers who've been over billed are being asked to contact the reservation call centre at 1-855-737-7275 (press 2).
