Sask. launches online map for hunting, fishing, bird watching

The Ministry of Environment has launched anew online tool and app called HABISaskthat it says will help people get the most of out Saskatchewan's outdoors and wildlife.

"The online mapping tool will help you plan your hunting and angling adventure, assist you in the early planning stages for projects or environmental reviewsor help you protect Saskatchewan's wildlife through your conservation activities," Minister of Environment Scott Moe said in a statement.

HABIstands for hunting, angling andbiodiversity information.

"This is a fantastic resource for our outdoor enthusiasts across the province," said Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation executive director Darrell Crabbe.

The app uses four themes to layer on the map, hunting, angling, project screening and wildlife viewing.

Hunting

• Wildlife management zones.
• Game preserves.
• Road corridor game preserves.
• Wildlife refuges.
• Bird sanctuaries.
• Wildlife biologist management areas.
• Conservation officer field offices.

Angling

• Water body locations.
• Fish species presence.
• Fish stocking history.
• Special regulations.
• Bathymetric (underwater depth) map links.
• Fisheries management zones.
• Fisheries biologist management areas.
• Conservation officer field offices.

Project screening and wildlife viewing

• Rare and endangered species observations.
• Ecological protection specialist districts.
• Managed areas.
