Saskatchewan studying safety at Alameda dam

The Saskatchewan government is doing a post-flood safety review of the Alameda Dam.

The Saskatchewan government is doing a post-flood safety review of the Alameda Dam.

The structure in the southeast corner of the province was filled to capacity during unprecedented spring flooding earlier this year, caused by a larger-than-usual snowmelt and heavy rains.

The province expressed concerns about safety in October, and on Friday said it's going to take another look at the situation.

It's hired the engineering firm Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. "to conduct further investigations and analyses" on the dam.

The company will make recommendations about how to make the dam safer, the government said in a news release.
