Saskatoon cemetery fees set to go up

Fees are going up at Saskatoon's Woodlawn Cemetery.

Fees are going up at Saskatoon's Woodlawn Cemetery.

On Monday, city council will be asked to approve a new cemetery fee schedule to take effect on Jan. 1, 2011.

An administration report says over the past few years, the cemetery's operations have been streamlined and costs have been cut.

But further cost cutting will jeopardize service levels and is no longer an option, the report says.

Under the proposed changes, a grave that can hold a casket will cost $1,205 (an extra $59) if it's in a new area, $1,575 (an extra $75) if it's in the older area.

Burials of adult caskets will go up to $1,075, an increase of $185 or 21 per cent.

Regina is also boosting cemetery fees on Jan. 1.
