New MLA to be elected in Saskatoon Meewasin on March 2

Saskatchewan's premier officially kicked off a byelection campaign in Saskatoon Meewasin Friday morning.

Winner will take seat in assembly for spring sitting beginning March 6

Saskatchewan's premier officially kicked off a byelection campaign in Saskatoon Meewasin Friday morning.

Brad Wall has set March 2as the date for the election of a new MLA in that constituency.

The previous Saskatchewan Party MLA, Roger Parent, died late last year.

By law, abyelectionmust be held within six months of a seat's vacancy. In this case, that meantbefore the end of May.

The earlier byelection date means the winner can take a seat in the legislative assembly in time for the spring sitting, which begins on March 6.

The Saskatchewan Party, the NDP, theLiberals and the Progressive Conservative party of Saskatchewan have all nominated candidates for the byelection so far.
