Spelling bee for Sask. First Nations kids set for Friday

First Nations children from around Saskatchewan will be gathering in NorthBattlefordFriday for a spelling beethe first of its kind.

Sponsored by the provincial government and hosted by Chief Poundmaker School, the inaugural event takes place at the Don Ross Centre.

Some140 students from 20 Saskatchewan First Nations schools are expected to participate.

The First Nations Provincial Spelling bee will havethree agecategories:six to eight, 9 to 11, and12 to 14.

First-place finishers in each category will go on to the Spelling Bee of Canada national event in Toronto on May 15.
