Sask. film The Sabbatical to screen at Cannes Film Festival

The Saskatchewan film The Sabbatical has won itself a screening at Le March du Film at the Cannes Film Festival in France May 15.

The movie came out last year and takes a critical look at what it means to be middle-aged. It examines the mid-life attitude in our society through the lens of a university professor on a sabbatical.

"We're floored," Brian Stockton, the director, said in a release. "We're having a wonderful worldwide festival run with the film and now it's time to sell it so it can be seen by a wider audience."

The comedy was shot in Regina over 18 months starting in 2013. It has screened at film festivals from Beijing to Florida.

A release says executive producers David Hansen and Johnny Mac will be in Cannes, France, representing the film and negotiating sales deals at the film market.
