Doctor charged with sexually assaulting 6 women from Yorkton, Sask., area

A doctor who practised at a health facility in Yorkton, Sask., has been charged with six counts of sexual assault.

RCMP announced the chargesagainstMohammed Haque, 72, on Thursday.

It's alleged there were six victims, all adult women, and that the offences occurred at the medical facility.

Haque, who was arrested in London, Ont.,is scheduled to appear in Yorkton provincial court on Feb. 22.

RCMP said their investigation began in 2001 when a woman came forward with a complaint alleging sexual assault. Police said that over the course of the next seven years, 12 women approached officials with similar complaints.

Haque had a history of complaints with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. He was charged with unprofessional conduct in 2013 and gave up his licence. Five of the charges brought to the college alleged sexually improper behaviour with patients.

The matter was resolved when Haque agreed to relinquish his licence and not to practise medicine in the future.

The college'slegal counsel and associate registrar, Bryan Salte,said the collegehad been in contact with RCMP about Haqueover the years.

Yorkton is a city of about 16,000 people located about 300 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon.
