Saskatoon reviewing bylaws for services like Airbnb

Spurred by the popularity ofonline services like Airbnb, the city is reviewing existing bylaw regulations for short-term accommodations.

Short-term accommodations include all rental arrangements in a residence where the host receives compensation from a guest that stays less than 30 days like vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and Airbnbs.

The city is hosting an open house today to consult the public on short-term accommodations. The city says the input provided will be used to help shape regulations. It's happening at the Frances Morrison Library from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Every business that operates in Saskatoon, including bed and breakfasts, requires a business licence. Homes and apartments rented out through the popularAirbnbwebsitedon't have the same requirements.

A business license is also not required to rent a basement suite or income property to a long-term tenant.

Residents are also invited to fill out an online survey to provide their input on short-term accommodations.
