A second fatal crash in less than six months on one of Saskatoon's busiest roadways brings concerns about the road's safety to the forefront.

It's estimated that 50,000 cars drive on Circle Drive near Attridge Drive every day. The area has also seen its fair share of crashes over the years.

According to SGI, 71 crashes were reported on Circle Drive between College Drive and Attridge Drive between 2011 and 2016. Of those 71 crashes, 22 injuries were reported to SGI.

On Wednesday, a 34-year-old man died after crashing head-on with a semi-trailer on that stretch on road. Police saidthe man's southbound car crossed the ditch and hit the northbound semi.

However, the area is not classified as a high collision area, according to the city of Saskatoon.

The city alsosaidthat particular area of road was inspected late last year, and thereview found barriers to separate the lines weren't required.

In the case of Wednesday's fatality, the city's director of transportation, Angela Gardiner, said if the investigation does find the road itself played a role in the accident, that could change.

According to SGI, there havebeen four fatalities from car collisions on all of Circle Drive since 2011. The accident yesterday brings that number up to five. Two of themhave been on the stretch of road between Attridge and College drives.

SGI also stated that the numbers of accidents for 2016 are preliminary and may change, as investigations are still ongoing.

Police saidthe investigation into Wednesday's crash is still in early stages, and it could be some time before investigators have answers.
