College Drive will open this morning after flipped ammonia truck safely removed

A stretch of College Drive near Circle Drive and Central Avenue will reopen Friday morning after Saskatoon emergency workers removed a semi hauling tanks of anhydrous ammonia that flipped.

Officials say the trailer tanks did not ruptureand release any of the compressed chemical in the Thursday accident.

The ammonia was removed from the truck at 7 a.m. CST Friday morning. The damaged tanker trailers wereloaded on flatbed trucks and taken out of the area by 8:30 a.m.

Crews were able to get the toppled rig set back on its wheels overnight. Workers toiled away for almost 24 hours trying to get the truck safely out of the area.

City crews are in the process of removing road signs and restoring traffic lights back to normal.
