There was a pizza party at The Lighthouse on Saturday.

Smiles were plentiful from both the volunteers and the people who came to get a pizza for lunch. The holiday celebration made the cold day seem a little warmer.

Volunteers from Humanity First Saskatoon handed out 100 pizzas. Coordinator Rashid Ahmed says they chose to give out pizza because it's a special and unique way to celebrate the holidays.

This is the second timethey've handed out pizzas in Saskatoon. Last year, they served individual sized pizzas, but this year they went bigger.

"This year we decided we will give big pizzas so they can share with their family, because that's the holiday spirit sharing food with your family and friends."

While the event was hosted by Humanity First Saskatoon, Ahmed said many other people and organizations stepped up andgot involved.

"That's the beauty of Saskatoon. Whenever we are doing any non-profit event or trying to involve community, a lot of people show up and try to help."

Humanity First is an international non-profit that helps underprivileged people all over the world. In Canada, their activities include running food banks and sponsoring refugees; the group also provides aid during times of crisis.
