Students at Saskatoon's King George Community School donate grad money to Fort McMurray

Grade 8 students at King George Community School are giving up grad to help people in Fort McMurray.

Students at Saskatoon'sKing George Community School havedonatedtheir grad money to help people in Fort McMurray, Alta.

The Grade 8class auctioned off their services toraise$1,000 bycompleting chores such asweeding gardens, cleaning and reading to younger students.

Themoney normally would have gone to theirfarewell celebration, but Grade 8 studentKarly Lauzon saidthe class had other ideas.

"It makes us feel good that we can give back to people and know that we can still have grad and they can have something," she said.

Since there are fewer than ten studentsin the class, the Grade 7 classalso pitched in.

They completedsix hours worth of chores as part of the deal.

The students gave the cheque to the Red Cross Fridaymorning.
