Students mail veterans postcards of thanks for Remembrance Day

High school students from Mount Royal Collegiate in Saskatoon have mailed postcards to war veterans for Remembrance Day to thank them for their service.

The Grade 9 and 10 students handwrote their messages before mailing the postcards to Veterans Village at Sherbrooke Community Centre.

"What I think is brave is risking your life to protect the things you love," Mason Dyck wrote.

Dyck is thankful to be able to wake up on his ranch and observe his horses, Ringo and Maverick. He is grateful to be able to follow his dream of being a bull rider.

"Next time I get on the back of my next bull, I will keep you men and women in my heart and mind," the postcard reads.

"Thank you for everything you have done for this country and all of our loved ones."

The students' teacher, Meagan Smith, has previously helped students send letters to veterans overseas. This year, she decided to mail postcards to veterans in the city.

The students began with rough drafts that went through a round of peer editing before the final postcards were written and mailed.

Smith is also screening Storming Juno, bit by bit, as the class discusses D-Day.
