Sask. NDP reaffirm pledge to make life more affordable for families

The NDP have reiterated itspledgethat,if elected, life will be more affordable for middle-class families, students, and seniors.

NDP Leader Cam Broten spokeat the Saskatoon's Farmers' Market on Saturday morning.

"During years of record resource wealth, [Brad] Wall threw away millions on misplaced priorities like lean, highly paid consultants and his gravy planes," Broten said in a release. "I understand the realities of everyday families and that's why my plan is based on fairness and making life more affordable."

Broten said that the NDP would achieve that through affordability measures including:

  • A middle-class tax cut.
  • Providing an option for seniors to defer their property taxes.
  • Reducing university and college tuition fees by $1,000, converting student loans to grants, and eliminating the interest on existing student loans.
  • Expanding free medical care to include mental health counseling for children and youth.

All the measures had previously been announced and were included in the full election platform released by the NDP on Thursday.

Voters go to the polls on April 4.
