Saskatoon Morning highlights high school that won CBC contest

Students at Nutana Collegiate got the chance to showcase the innovative projects at their school this morning.

Saskatoon Morningwasbroadcasting live from the high schoolthis morning after winning a contest that asked why their school was a great place to take classes.

School pride on display

Nutana is unique in the Saskatoon Public School system. Most of the students have either been asked to leave other schools, or find that they have a hard time learning in other environments.

Students start classes later in the day, and have fewer, longer classes. The school also has a variety of supports for students, from counsellors to a daycare for students' children.

"It's wonderful.I'm very proud of the students and the school of course, and it's very exciting," said Eman Demmans, who teaches English at the school.

Class video won CBC contest

It was Demmans' class whichcreated a video entry for the Nominate Your School contest, which highlighted some of the things they love about attending Nutana Collegiate.

"It was pretty easy on my part," Demmans said. "I just told them about the contest and they really ran with it."

She said the students made the video on their own time and thatsays alot about their motivation and how they feel about their school.

"It's a really great reflection, I think, of how they see the school which is what makes it so wonderful," Demmans said.

There was a pancake breakfast and everyone was invited to attend.
