Student driver responsible for destroying Saskatoon statue turns himself in

The mystery of what happened tothe Visionariesstatue is no more, thanks to the (eventual)honesty of the person involved in the crash.

According to police, the person responsible for knocking over Leslie Potter'swell-known stone statue downtowncame forward and turned himself in last week. The individual turned out to bea driver with a learner's permit.

After crashing into the statue, the driver left the scene and did not immediatelyreport the accident.

The crash took place on Feb. 22.The student driver will be fined for the accident, as per theTraffic Safety Act, police said.

City officials are unsure if the statue can be repaired.

The three tall stone figures of Visionarieshadstood on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 21st Street since 1994.
