2 men who helped a prisoner escape in Prince Albert arrested

Two men who police believe assisted Braidy Vermette in his daring escape from the Prince Albert jail during a hospital transfer have been arrested.

On March 30 Vermette was being transported to hospital to get treatment for a cut on his elbow. In the hospital parking lot two assailants wearing masks attacked the guards with bear spray and pulled out a gun, according to police.

Vermette, who was later recaptured, took off with the men.

The men have been identified as Richard Favel, 30, and Wade Halkett, 25.

Police arrested Favel Sunday at a home in Prince Albert while Halkett was arrested Tuesday.

Both face charges of assisting Vermette escape from lawful custody as well as assault with a weapon and disguise with intent. Favel faces an additional charge of breaching conditions of his bail.

About a week after the escape police re-arrestedVermette after he was spotted leaving a burning home in the Prince Albert area.

Vermette was first arrested in mid-March and charged with first-degree murder in relation to the alleged death of Troy Napope.

Police continue to look for others who may have played a part in Vermette's escape.
