RCMP say death of woman south of Saskatoon a homicide

RCMP investigators say the death of woman last night south of Saskatoon is a homicide.

The woman was discovered on Clarence Avenue, about eight kilometres south of the city.Saskatoon RCMP were told about a woman who had suffered an injury to her neck.

A witness tells CBC News that she was about to go for a walk at about 7:30 p.m. yesterday, when she heard a commotion in front of her home.

When the witness ran to the end of her driveway, she saw a car parked on the road by a ditch.

The witness said a woman came walking towards her and said, "call the police."The woman then kept walking north towards the city.

The witness said she then saw a man in the ditch over top of another woman. He was trying to stop bleeding on her neck while also talking to 911 on the phone.

The witness then took the phone and told police their location.

The man started CPR while the witness said she was holding the victims neck to keep pressure in the wound.

By the time an ambulance arrived, the witness said she believed the victim was already dead.

The victim was transported to Royal University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.The victim's name has yet to be released.

An adult woman is in custody.

Police blocked off the road at about 8 p.m. CST and were still on scene this morning. Police were searching ditches with a metal detector this morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
