Saskatchewan Rush fans pumped up for western finals

Lacrosse fans across the province are anxiously awaiting Saturday night.

The Saskatchewan Rush are travelling to Calgary for game one of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Western finals.

"They're definitely up against a good coach and a good, solid, experienced team," said Randy Trobak, Rush fan andhead coachof the Saskatchewan SWAT junior box lacrosse team.

In the franchise's first year in the city, the Rush has managed to dazzle spectators, selling out SaskTel Centre on a regular basis.

Now, the team is in playoff season, and the stakes are high. Even though the team is coming off an NLL championship from its last season in Edmonton, victory is far from guaranteed.

"The Rush is going to have to use their speed and their youth to work hard and pressure lots and work to take the game away from them," said Trobak.

In the NLL playoffs, teams play a best-of-three series. Next week, the Rush will return to Saskatoon with homefield advantage.

In a unique twist, the third game, if needed, is a ten-minute game played after the second game in the series.

"It's pretty exciting," said Trobak. "The momentum is still coming from the second game. So, it's definitely a fast-paced game."

The team takes the field at 7 p.m. CST.
