Sask. post-secondary schools partner to seek out more international students

Three post-secondary schools in Saskatchewan are partnering up to market themselves to international students.

The University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Polytechnic have signed a memorandum of understanding to that effect, called Sask Alliance.

"International students and scholars bring diversity and expose our students to broader ways of understanding issues locally and globally," said Vianne Timmons, the University of Regina's president and vice-chancellor, in a news release issued earlier this week.

Of that school's 15,000 students, 14 per cent currently come from outside Canada.

Among the alliance's goals, according to the release, will be to "enhance recognition of Saskatchewan as a high-quality education destination for international students" and to "create a recognizable Saskatchewan education brand."

The schools will also work together on joint marketing efforts to recruit new students.
