If you've been thinking about adopting a cat, it's time for action.

"Shelters are just bursting with cats and we can't keep up with the numbers," said Cathy Brin with the Saskatoon SPCA.

"It can be a really sad place at times when you are seeing dozens of these absolutely beautiful and loving animals make their way into the shelter," said Brin. "They are homeless animals just looking for another chance."

Right now, the shelter is accepting donations to adopt a cat andthere is no set fee. Fostering a cat is also an option for those looking to help.

Brin said litters of kittens are being foundall over the city in places like garagesor under steps as homeless cats seek any shelter they can find to give birth.

According to Brin, milderweather earlier in the year helped contribute to the increase in kittens being born. But, she said ultimatelyit's up to pet owners to help reduce the number of strays.

"We are still seeing a lot of people not spaying or neutering, that's really the only way to get ahead of this problem."
