Saskatoon pizza robbery leaves delivery driver unable to pay bills

At the beginning, it seemed like a regular pizza delivery job.

Late Sunday afternoon, Tom Siklosi was asked to drive out to the Kensington neighbourhood on Saskatoon's west side. He was asked to bring change for a $100 billsomething he didn't consider unusual.

When he arrived at the unfinished home on Labine Court, Siklosi was asked to go downstairs. When he arrived in the unfinished basement, he was approached by two young men in masks, one wielding a bat, the other armed with a pipe wrench.

"One was jumping around, and said, 'This is no joke,'"Siklosi told CBC."'Give us your effingmoney.'"

The two men stole all of Siklosi's money, along with his cellphone. Now, he doesn't know how he's going to continue as a delivery driver.

"To do deliveries nowadays, you need to have a cell phone," he said. "You need to have Google Maps, and a lot of places say, 'call when you get there'."

Apart from his cell phone, Siklosi said losing so much money means he will soon be behind on his bills, and has no idea how he is going to pay them now.

"It's a terrible financial hardship," he said. "I only work a couple of hours a week, and I'm on disability. It's a terrible hardship."

Last weekend, police said four different delivery drivers were robbed under similar circumstances. They believe the incidents are connected.

Siklosi hopes the criminals are caught and prosecuted.

"I know there's a lot of desperate people out there, and even for $100, they would kill you for it."
