Saskatoon sends condolences to La Loche after school shooting

People in Saskatoon are sending their condolences to the victims of the recent shootings in La Loche, Sask.

Signatures are filling a memorial book at the Park Funeral Chapel for the four people killed in the shooting last Friday.

Adam Wood, a teacher, and Marie Janvier, an educational assistant, were gunned down at La Loche Community School where seven people were also injured. Brothers Dayne and Drayden Fontaine, aged 17 and 13 respectively, were killed at a separate residence.

It is important for the families and community to have support, says funeral director Derryl Hildebrandt .

"Those people need to know that the rest of the community, Saskatchewan, are supporting them, are thinking about them. We figured this was one of the best ways we could do that," he said.

People who have signed the book have also expressed that they want to do something, Hildebrandt added.

"[We are] providing a place for the people of Saskatoon and the surrounding community to do something, to feel like they are actually doing something to support those up north," he said.

The book was made available on Monday and Hildebrandt said that a lot of people have been stopping by, including Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison.

Hidebrandt said he hopes it will help the families and community in their grieving process.
