Snow moves national softball tournament to Saskatoon golf dome

Saskatoon's turn at hosting the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association national championship will be one to remember as it was the first such tournament to be played indoors.

The reason?

"Look outside. All the snow," said 2016 chair Bryan Kosteroski.

The original plan was for the tournament to be outdoors at the Bob Van Impe Stadium . However, when snow began falling in the Bridge City on Wednesday, Kosteroski said they had to come up with an alternate plan.

"You can't cancel a Canadian championship. [The teams] have their plane tickets bought, their rooms are all booked."

The only option, Kosteroski said, was to move indoors.

The Ramada Golf Dome became the new venue.

"[The players] didn't know what to think because nobody really knew how it was going to go."

From the first pitch to the last on Sunday, Kosteroski said the venue was excellent.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies met the University of Western Ontario Mustangs in the finals Sunday. Saskatchewan won 1-0 in nine innings.
