For a number of days throughout Pride Week in Saskatoon, the Sasktel Centre will be lit up in rainbow colours.

"It really wasn't a question or whether or not to do it," said sponsorship and communications manager, Cheri Hamilton. "It's really important for us to be a part of the community and we have this great light technology, so whywouldn't we use it?"

The staff at the Sasktel Centre tested the lights last night and were thrilled with how it turned out.

"It really is the most impressive colour of lights we've done," said Hamilton.

The rainbow lights will be shining brightly on the building tonight for the kickoff of Pride. The lights will then turn green tomorrow night for the Saskatchewan Rush national lacrosse league championship game. Then it'll switch back to rainbow lights throughout Pride Week, finally going back to the generic Sasktel Centre colours for Garth Brooks.

"We have so many different groups and demographics that come through here," said Hamilton. "It doesn't matter what colour it is, we want to celebrate with the community."

Rainbow surprise for Pride Festival Committee

"I was shocked," said Saskatoon Pride Festival co-chair, Danny Papadatos. He had no idea the Sasktel Centre was planning on doing this.

"We couldn't be more proud," said Papadatos. "To see it lit up with the rainbow colours is overwhelming."

Papadatos saidthis is just another sign Saskatoon is moving towards a more inclusive society.

"We couldn't have asked for a better display or message. I'm so proud of Saskatoon to see the city it's becoming."

This year's Pride Week Festival starts tonight in Saskatoon and runs until next Sunday. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 11.
