2nd YXE street food festival serves up more trucks, music

As Saskatoon hosts its second annual street food and music festival, the one potentialhitch the organizers have covered this year is stocking up with enough food.

According to Tourism Saskatoon spokespersonAvivaZack, last year's inauguralstreet meetwas such a hit that the city's food trucks ran out of food for their5,000 guests before the day was done.

"In 2013, there were only three trucks involved,"Zacksaid. "It's been booming since then."

Festival co-organizers Chad Reynolds and Patrick Wood have added a bit more, beyondjust the food trucks, for this year's event: artisans, florists, craft makers and bands will all be part of the event.

That, plus more than 20 different food trucks.

The lineup includes Bridge City staples like Disco Dogs and Pineapple Express. There's also newcomers like SoomSoom, a truck that specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine like shawarma and falafel.

"When I traveled to Israel, my favourite thing was going to eat falafel or shawarma," Zack said, noting she aims to try out SoomSoom.

Zack said she thinks the mobile food scene is growing in Saskatoon, because "a lot of the people who open these food trucks put their creative energy into a few specialized items."

Whether festival goers fill up on pineapple perogies, lowrider hot dogs orburritos, Zacknoted that Reynolds and Wood have enough food to "ensure thateveryone leaveshappy and full."

The festival runs from 11:30 a.m. to9:30 p.m. CST todayon SpadinaCresecentbetween Second Avenue and Third Avenue.
