Suspicious fire at abandoned Saskatoon house Friday night

Fire investigators say a blaze that burned through a vacant house in Saskatoon Friday night has been deemed suspicious.

Fire happened at vacant property on 22nd Street W. after 9 p.m. CST

Fire investigators say a blaze that burned through a vacant house in Saskatoon Friday night has been deemedsuspicious.

The Saskatoon Fire Department was alerted to the fire when a passerby called 911 at about 9:20 p.m. CST.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the single-storey house when fire crews arrived at the address on 22nd Street W.

With three engine companies, an aerial ladder truck and a rescue truck, firecrews attacked the flames from the inside, bringing the fire under control in under 21 minutes.

When rescue crews searched the main floor and basement they found the home was vacant and mounds of refuse had been left inside.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Preliminary damages to the residence are estimated to be valued at $200,000.

No connection with other April fires, saysfire department

The fire department said there was no link between Friday night's fire and several others in Saskatoon this month.It is still investigating a fire that spread across two homes on Carr Crescent in Saskatoon on Thursday night.

The damagebill from the fire, which started in a garage, is estimated to be about $525,000.

Witnesses are being interviewed this weekend.

Stonebridgeincidents still being investigated

Emergency officials in Saskatoon are also investigating a rash of fires thathappened within a span of two hoursin a Stonebridge neighbourhood on April 7.

Between 2 a.m.and 4 a.m. that morning, there were five fires involvingtwo houses, a garage, a vehicleand a construction trailer.The damage from those fires was estimated to be $450,000.

The fires happened in close proximity on Kolynchuk Bend, Kolynchuk Link and Kolynchuk Court.
