U of S women's basketball team returns home CIS national champions

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team landed in Saskatoon Monday night to a crowdof cheeringfansand family after winning the university'sfirst women's basketballnational championship over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Huskies toppled the Ryerson University Rams 85-71in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championships held in Fredericton, N.B.

Ten years ago, the Huskies entered the national tournament as the number one seed, but were quickly ousted. This time the team returned home with the title.

Head coach Lisa Thomaidissaid this championship is a moment the girls will never forget as long as they live.
