Washed out highway swallows car near La Ronge, Sask.

A washed out road on Highway 165 southeast of La Ronge has swallowed a single car.

Police say driver did not suffer any injuries

A washed out gravel roadon Highway 165has swallowed a vehicle near La Ronge, Sask.

Rosemarie Sewap was heading out on acamping tripsoutheast of the communitywhen she came across theabandoned vehiclearound 10 p.m. CST Saturday.

She said it was sitting at the bottom of a ditcha place where a road used to be.

"I was like, 'Oh my God, I hope that person wasn't hurt' you know, whoever was in that car," said Sewap.

According toRCMP, officers were notified of the single vehicle crash earlier in the day. They saidthe carhad been driven into theportion of the highway that had been washed away.

Police said the driver didn't suffer any injuries.

Due to recent rain

Highway 165 has since beenclosed from junctions 106 to 912 whilethesituation is being dealt with.

"The washout was due to recent significant rain," the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure said in anemail.

The ministry said repairs will involve replacing two culverts, along with filling in the washout with gravel and other materials.

Until the road isreopened, motorists are asked to usedetours found on Highways 912, 913 and 106.
