What routes to take when University Bridge closes

On Sunday, the University Bridge will close to the public for four months of construction.

Starting Sunday,Saskatoon's University Bridge will be closed to public traffic for construction.

The City of Saskatoon said the thoroughfare will receive some needed repairs to its deck and is scheduled to reopen onAug.30.The city also said the impact on city traffic will be a 'pain the asphalt'.

This is why it is offering up several alternatives to commuters who rely on the bridge.

The city said the following are the most "efficient routes from each quadrant of the City to cross the river during construction":

  • Northwest to the University:Use Circle Drive North Bridge Preston Avenue
  • Northeast to Downtown:Use Circle Drive North Bridge Warman Road
  • Southwest to the University:Use Circle Drive South Bridge Circle Drive College Drive
  • Southeast to Downtown:Use 8th Street or Circle Drive Sid Buckwold Bridge
The city is retiming traffic signals to allow for more a efficient commute on the following routes, which will become busier: 8th Street, 12th Street, Broadway Avenue, Idylwyld Freeway, 2nd Avenue, 25th Street, College Drive, Warman Road, Preston Avenue. (City of Saskatoon)

City Transit will offer express routesfrom Erindale, Lakewood, Willow Grove and other areas.
