Whistle-blower care aide fired in Saskatchewan

A whistle-blower raising concerns about seniors' health at a care home in Saskatoonhas been fired.

Care aidePeter Bowden took his concernstothe legislature in March about the well-being of seniorsat Saskatoon's Oliver Lodge.

The following month,Bowden was suspended with pay. His dismissalwas confirmed this week.

Oliver Lodge is an affiliate of the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR); it wasthe place whereBowden was employed.

The SRH president and CEO Dan Florizone said in a written statement to the CBC that the termination had nothing to do with Bowden contacting the media or political parties about his concerns with his place of employment.

"This decision was made based on the results of a labour relations investigation where seven of the Region's policies were alleged to have been violated," the statement read.
