The City of Greater Sudbury is bringing in some hired help from Toronto in its legal fight against local construction company Interpaving.

The city has hired well-known business law firm Blake, Cassels and Graydon to defend it against a request for a judicial review.

Interpaving wants the court to rule that the bylaw used to ban it from bidding on city contracts violates its constitutional rights.

The city blocked the company from doing municipal work this spring following the crushing death of a woman on a construction site last year.

Both Interpaving and the city are facing provincial charges for the accident and are being sued by the woman's family for $2 million.

In a statement, the city says it is common to hire outside lawyers for specialized legal matters.
