Blue-green algae appears on two Sudbury lakes

People in Greater Sudbury are being warned not to use or drink water from two lakes.

McFarlane Lake in the city's south end, and Whitson Lake in Val Caronhave tested positive for blue-green algae.

The local health unit says the pea soup-like toxins can irritate skin, and cause vomiting or diarrhea.

If a person ingests a high level of the toxins, the health unit says liver and nervous system damage could result.

It advises people to avoid the lakes as long as blue-green algae blooms are visible.
